#280: Divorce is not an option March 6, 2012

'Til Death

Marriage vows are a solemn promise before God.  The love between a husband and wife is symbolic of God’s love and God’s love is eternal.  Marriage is a lifetime commitment – til death us do part.

The best way to prevent divorce is to not believe in it.  If you simply do not see divorce as an option, when times get rough you don’t even consider going down that road.

My husband tells me all the time, I will never leave you.  I tell him the same.  When I tell him I will never leave him it is because I see our marriage as between God, him, and me.  I can never leave God.  When I get terribly mad at my husband, I never bring up divorce.  I honestly do not believe in divorce.  I am married for life.

#196: Not Being Kim Kardashian November 7, 2011

It’s funny.  My husband doesn’t even know who Kim Kardashian is.  He is not big into pop culture and it’s one of the things I love about him.  I’m not really that much into either but I am aware of what’s going on in the pop culture world.  The latest – Kim filing for divorce after a few months of marriage and her $10 million wedding has gotten to me and I wanted to write something about it.  Since I’ve decided to climb up on my soapbox I may as well stand up straight and speak loudly and clearly!

The first thing that really upsets me is how this incident shows so little respect for marriage. Marriage to me is a relationship between a man and woman that is blessed by God.  It’s not done for play, for publicity, or money.  It’s supposed to be for keeps.

Second, marriage is supposed to be about commitment.  A lifelong commitment.

Third, these reality shows seem to be having such a negative influence on people’s real lives.  There should be some privacy for married couples and families.

Ok – I’ve said my piece.  It wasn’t a lot but I just had to say it.  Recently I told a Christian friend that the thing made me mad and she said something that made a lot of sense.  She said, “These people are of  the world.”  When you are of the world, you will do stupid, nonsensical, hurtful and ridiculous things.  And others of the world will look upon it and won’t see anything wrong.

Take care,

Me – trying to be of God while in the world

#105: The hope of going farther than my parents went July 7, 2011

My parents divorced when I was 9 or 10 years old.  I have now been married for 4 years.  It’s hard to believe that in 7 years I will have surpassed the length of their marriage.  Of course it’s no race.  I thank God that my parents were married and I am sorry they divorced.  I know they did the best they could.  I pray that my marriage lasts a good long time, God-willing.
