I Love This Husband & Wife Stuff

365 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT BEING MARRIED!

#17: Some times you are not the only peppy one in the morning August 31, 2010

Usually I am the bouncy, off the charts, chirping bird in the morning. Naturally a morning person, I am up at 5 jumping around, tidying, singing to myself – you know the type. My husband, on the other hand, is quiet, doesn’t like “too many words” in the morning. We co-exist. We usually are on different floors to balance out our differences.

Because I’ve been sick lately, I am not a morning person this week. This morning for whatever reason, my husband was in SUCH a good mood. He was loud, was slapping me on the back in a playful way – and I hated it. I wanted everything quiet and soft. I accused him of being too rough, a by-product of growing up in a household of three large boys, all athletes.

But secretly, deep inside, I’m happy that he was playing the part of me. Somebody needs to be cheerful. Why not him? He was just holding the space of my usual, peppy, loud, chirpy morning person self who hopes she’s back tomorrow.

#16: Having someone take care of you when you are sick August 30, 2010

It’s awful being sick.  But you know what makes it better?  To have a loving spouse there to take care of you.  My husband brought be soup in bed.  He went to the store to get me juice.  He bought be a humidifier and put it together and hooked it up.  He also hugged me when I asked him to and listened to me whine.  I feel sorry for him, but it sure was nice to have him there.

#15: Friday Nights August 27, 2010

There is nothing like coming home after a long week to Friday night with my husband.  We usually do some sort of take-out.  Lately, to be healthier and save money we do “take-out” at the grocery store.  We get things like sushi, soup, deli meats, baked or fried chicken in the prepared foods section.  OK – maybe it’s not too healthy!

Then we usually eat in the family room while watching a movie or tv.  It’s so fun.  I think Friday night is my favorite time of the week.

A co-worker once said that being married is like getting to hang out with your best friend all the time.  So true!

#14: Being Part of The Married Community August 26, 2010

There are probably many blogs out there about marriage.  I am going to look for more of them.  Two that I really like are:

  1. The Marriage Project http://wittywifesmarriageproject.wordpress.com/
  2. The Wife Project http://thewifeproject.wordpress.com/

I can really relate to both.  They are both relatively new wives, and so am I.  They are both trying to be good wives and they both have a Christian focus.

It’s great to have community and I enjoy being part of a larger group committed to marriage.  That’s the main reason I started this marriage-related blog: to promote and celebrate marriage.  It is a beautiful thing!

#13: Forgiving August 25, 2010

Being married, you get to forgive.  Forgiving is good for the soul.  God forgives and expects us to forgive others.  Forgiving frees us up.  It opens our hearts.  We are easier on ourselves.  Forgiveness is not only a balm for the heart and soul of the forgiven, but for us as well.

I forgive my husband; I forgive myself.

#12: I get to pray for my husband August 24, 2010

Every day, and especially when he’s going through something tough, I pray for my husband.  I pray for him before I go to sleep, or first thing in the morning, or while I’m cooking for him.  It is a blessing and a privilege for me to pray for someone else.  And I know that God smiles when He hears wives praying for their husbands.  Wives, say a prayer today for your husbands.

On my way to the subway today, I looked over from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat.  And there he was, my husband, in his blue suit, so handsome, and all MINE!  🙂
